In addition to creating a lasting legacy at Yad Sarah and for the people of Israel, Planned Giving allows you to:

  1. Define how you want to be remembered.
Planned Giving offers you the opportunity to communicate your values and ensure that your charitable interests are aligned with your wishes.
  2. Enjoy financial flexibility and savings.
Planned Giving allows you to support organizations while ensuring your financial needs are met. Depending on the gift type, you may enjoy immediate tax benefits, reduce estate taxes, and create lifetime income for yourself or your loved ones.
  3. Maximize the impact of your assets.
Planned Giving enables you to make a larger gift than you may have thought possible during your lifetime. Many options, such as bequests or designating a charitable beneficiary in your IRA or life insurance policy, involve future gifts that don’t impact your finances today.

Find the Planned Giving Option for Your Goals

Planned Giving offers versatile solutions to address your personal and financial goals while enabling you to leave a meaningful legacy. Below, we outline common needs and the Planned Giving options that can help meet them.

1. “I want to make a Planned Gift  and preserve my financial flexibility.”

Bequests and Wills: By including Yad Sarah in your will or trust, you can make a meaningful gift without impacting your finances during your lifetime or during the lifetime of your heirs. The option to change the provisions in your will or trust allows you to adjust your plan if circumstances change.

2. “I want to minimize taxes on my retirement assets while benefiting my heirs.”

Beneficiary Designations: Naming Yad Sarah as a beneficiary of your IRA or 401(k) avoids the high taxes often associated with inherited retirement accounts, maximizing the impact of your gift.  You can name family members as beneficiaries along with Yad Sarah.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you’re 70½ or older, you can transfer up to $105,000 annually in 2025 from your IRA directly to Yad Sarah and pay no federal income tax on the IRA withdrawals. This may eliminate taxes on your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) which you must take starting at age 73, thus reducing your adjusted gross income.

3. “I want to secure income for myself or loved ones while giving back.”

Charitable Gift Annuities: This option provides you (and/or a designated loved one) with fixed income for life/lives while supporting Yad Sarah and its work in Israel in the future. A portion of the gift may also offer immediate and annual tax and income benefits.

Charitable Remainder Trusts: These trusts allow you to generate fixed rate payments for yourself and/or others and are usually funded with long-term capital gain property to avoid initial capital gains taxes. The assets remaining in the trust after the end of its term will be paid over to Yad Sarah for general purposes or for use as you designate. In one form of this trust, known as a unitrust, any annual growth in the net value of the trust will increase your annual payments for the following year to provide a hedge against inflation.

4. “I want to create a meaningful legacy with assets I no longer need.”

Life Insurance Policy: Transform an existing policy into a substantial gift by naming Yad Sarah as a beneficiary. This approach is especially effective if the policy is no longer needed for its original purpose.  You may also want to consider transferring a paid-up policy to Yad Sarah during your lifetime and receive a current income tax charitable deduction for its calculated value.

Personal Property and Real Estate: Donate valuable items such as artwork, collectibles, or property. This option can provide immediate tax benefits while turning illiquid assets into either lifetime income for you and/or others or current life-changing support for Yad Sarah.

5. “I want my gift to have an immediate impact without affecting my budget.”

Appreciated Stocks and Bonds: Donating stocks or mutual funds that have increased in value allows you to avoid capital gains taxes and claim a charitable deduction, amplifying your giving power.

6. “I want a simple, impactful way to give while planning for the future.”

Donor-Advised Funds: Recommend a grant to Yad Sarah from your DAF while enjoying the flexibility of contributing to your fund and recommending grants when it makes the most sense for you financially.

Each of these options can be tailored to fit your unique needs, ensuring your gift aligns with your values and financial priorities.
