A 19-year-old soldier was severely injured in battle and lost both his legs. He was granted permission to leave the hospital for Shabbat. But returning home wasn't simple — he needed a specially adapted wheelchair to support him.
Amid the anguish of losing his legs, he longed to be reunited with his family and experience the comfort and normalcy of Shabbat. However, the short notice of his discharge made it difficult to obtain customized equipment in time.
That's when Yad Sarah stepped in.
Meir Greenwald, a 35-year volunteer and customization expert, immediately took on the request. Alongside the team at Yad Sarah's Modiin branch, Meir designed a special extension for his legs to rest comfortably, allowing the young soldier to use the wheelchair safely.
With this adaptation, the young soldier was able to return home to Haifa and celebrate Shabbat with his family.
Yad Sarah is proud to support soldiers and civilians alike, helping them live as independently as possible.
