Nehemi Segal, a volunteer at Yad Sarah's Loneliness Relief Center, doesn't let her disability stop her from helping others. Despite navigating the challenges of visual impairment, she conducts calls to check on the well-being of homebound individuals at the center.
One day, Nehemi called to check on a 93-year-old woman named Doris, who lives in Zichron Yaakov. Doris' caregiver answered and shared, "She hasn't responded since this morning."
Nehemi was concerned about Doris, and without hesitation, she contacted the emergency center to alert Doris's daughter and dispatch further assistance.
An ambulance quickly arrived at Doris' home, and it was determined that Doris had suffered a mini-stroke – also known as a transient ischemic attack – and required urgent medical attention. Thanks to Yad Sarah's timely call, Doris was safely transported to the hospital for immediate care – saving her life just in time.
