Yosef, a 65-year-old man living with diabetes, was recovering from a leg amputation at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem when his full dental bridge suddenly detached from its implants. He was left in severe dental pain and unable to eat — only days after major surgery, and still hospitalized for something else entirely. Because of Yosef’s surgery, leaving the hospital to receive specialized dental care was not an option.
Yosef’s family reached out to Yad Sarah’s Mobile Dental Clinic. Within hours, a team of volunteers — led by dentist Dr. Mansour — arrived directly at Yosef’s hospital room. The rapid response was made possible by the Shaare Zedek Medical Center administration, which granted permission for the treatment to take place on-site.
Dr. Mansour and the team repaired the bridge on the spot, enabling Yosef to eat again without traveling outside the hospital or waiting days for dental care.
“Yosef had just gone through a major surgery and urgently needed care so he could eat comfortably again,” said Dr. Mansour. “We were glad to bring our specialized care right to his hospital bedside, delivering professional treatment while sparing him an arduous transfer out of the hospital.”
Yad Sarah’s Mobile Dental Unit is equipped with the necessary dental equipment to transform almost any room into a fully functioning dental clinic. Our volunteer dentists bring professional care directly to those who need it most, including underserved, homebound, and disabled individuals.
