It was nearly midnight when Leah Palmer, manager of Yad Sarah's branch in Yeruham, received an urgent call from Dr. Walidi Pariach, a local physician. One of his hospice patients — a Bedouin man — was suddenly struggling to breathe, and the patient’s home-hospital equipment couldn't be set up until morning. Dr. Walidi asked to immediately borrow oxygen equipment from Yad Sarah’s Medical Equipment Lending Center.
There was one complication: given the patient's poor condition, he couldn't consent to the disclosure of the personal information needed to make the loan in his name. Understanding the urgency, Dr. Walidi borrowed the oxygen equipment in his own name and covered the deposit on behalf of the patient.
Thanks to Dr. Walidi’s attentiveness and Yad Sarah's around-the-clock network of resources, volunteers at the Yeruham branch were able to act quickly and deliver the equipment to the client. The Bedouin man patient breathed comfortably at home through the night. Because of Yad Sarah’s support in moments like these, people facing serious illness can spend their final days at home in comfort and with dignity.
In addition to oxygen concentrators, Yad Sarah offers more than 150 types of medical equipment for loan—including wheelchairs, hospital beds, advanced rehabilitative gear, and more—to ensure people of all ages have the equipment they need to meet their healthcare needs. At Yad Sarah’s Lending Centers across Israel, all medical equipment is available for both short and long-term loans at little to no out of pocket cost. In 2025 alone, the organization loaned more than 932,980 pieces of medical equipment, supporting families across Israel.
