Delivering Care Under Fire: Yad Sarah's Home Hospitalization Unit

Nethanel "Nati" Shamila is a long-time volunteer driver for Yad Sarah's home hospitalization department in southern Israel. He delivers and builds medical home hospital equipment to those in need.

For more than two decades, residents of southern Israel have lived under the shadow of missile alerts and ongoing conflict. Despite this constant danger, Nethanel continues to show up and ensure that essential equipment reaches the appropriate location.

"I'm used to working under fire," said Nethanel.

On many occasions, Nethanel has had to take shelter alongside clients and their families in reinforced safe rooms while rocket sirens blare. In older buildings without such protection, he has run to public shelters or crowded building bunkers, waiting for the danger to pass.

Following October 7th, he helped evacuees from Israel's southernmost regions set up home hospitalization equipment in the Leonardo Hotel in Beersheba and hotels along the Dead Sea.

The impact of his contribution is undeniable, but Nethanel admits it takes a toll: "I try to go into automatic mode."

Yad Sarah's Home Hospitalization Department enables patients to continue recovery in the comfort of their own homes rather than in a hospital. Yad Sarah lends over 15,000 units of home hospital equipment annually to individuals across Israel. From lifting cranes to nursing chairs, we offer 150 types of medical equipment to meet a wide range of rehabilitation needs, ensuring that individuals can remain comfortable as they recover.
