A Yad Sarah Volunteer's Journey: Giving Back After Displacement

1 minute reading time (141 words)

Flora Bunfed was raised in Shlomi, a small community in northern Israel near the Lebanon border, where she and her husband raised six children. To support her family, she worked as a housekeeper in government health clinics.

When war broke out, Flora and her family were forced to evacuate. Thankfully, they found temporary shelter at the Ramada Hotel in Jerusalem, and to keep busy and give back, she began volunteering at Yad Sarah. She volunteered at the organization's laundry facilities, working in the laundry room and helping clean hospitality suites.

About two months ago, the government began encouraging residents from northern Israel to return home. Flora faced a dilemma. Her home was nearly destroyed.

Despite the loss, she remains resilient.

Flora is now living with her daughter in Modiin but continues volunteering with Yad Sarah, offering help to others as she rebuilds her life.
